Adrienne Carey Hurley Adrienne Carey Hurley is Assistant Professor of Modern Japanese Literature and Culture at the University of Iowa, where she is also the director of the University of Iowa Youth Empowerment Academy (YEA!).  Her areas of research expertise include modern and contemporary Japanese literature and culture, youth and violence, child abuse, institutionalized and incarcerated youth, media studies, anarchism, Third World solidarity movements, and, of course, the fiction of Tomoyuki Hoshino.  She also teaches courses in African American Studies and is especially interested in the Black Panther Party, the writings of Dr. Huey P. Newton, and the activism of Yuri Kochiyama.

Brian Bergstrom Brian Bergstrom is a doctoral graduate student in the East Asian Languages and Civilizations Department at the University of Chicago. Currently based in Montreal, Canada, he is completing a project examining representations of youthful criminals in Japanese literature and popular culture. Other Japanese literary interests include prewar proletarian literature, literary and other experiments associated with the "ero-guro" [erotic-grotesque] phenomenon, contemporary manga artists such as Maruo Suehiro and Asakura George, and contemporary authors like Tsujii Naoki, Ogawa Yoko, Itoyama Akiko, and, of course, Hoshino Tomoyuki. In his spare time, he enjoys listening to Kyoto/Osaka garage-punk bands and watching horror movies.
   
Lucy Fraser Translator Lucy Fraser is completing a bachelor of arts at the University of Queensland, with single majors in literary studies (including creative writing) and Japanese. She recently returned from a year as an exchange student at Sophia University in Tokyo, where she studied Japanese and translation.
